A perfect spot to stretch your legs on the drive between Phoenix and Tucson, the Casa Grande ruins are an impressive structure. The Great House, estimated to be more than 600 years old, stands four stories tall. Itâs one of the few ruins Iâve visited that is now under a shelter, which was built in 1903. Thankfully, this site has been in the hands of the National Park Service since 1918. Casa Grande is credited to the Hohokam, who also pioneered irrigation techniques that are seen throughout the Phoenix area. The Casa Grande site also contains a small museum and visitor center.
